Thinking of joining a Martial Arts club in Halifax or Sowerby Bridge? There are many options including Karate, Ju-jitsu, Taekwondo, and Judo, but Halifax Sport Karate is the most successful club in the Calderdale region for good reason.

Whenever deciding which club to join make sure you consider all of the points in green:

The club teaches our very own style of karate called "Bushido Ryu Kempo do" founded in Halifax in 1982.

 

The club has produced many English, British, and International champions and has produced England Karate Team representatives in both Kata and Kumite.

The club was highly commended in 2011 at the Calderdale Sports Awards and has seen its students win awards for Best Junior Sports Person Male and Female, Disability Sports Person, and Coach of the Year.

Halifax Sport Karate is affiliated with the Bushido Ryu Association and is a proud member of the English Karate Federation (EKF) and the World Karate Federation (WKF). The club caters to all ages and abilities.

 

Our club is a family run dojo that promotes martial arts, self-defense, fitness, confidence, and discipline. All instructors are DBS checked and first aid trained.

Sensai Matt Handley is accredited by both the English Karate Federation and the World Karate Federation

Do the Teachers have a viable Track Record?
Sensai Matt Handley is a former British karate champion, English medalist, and England representative

Does the club have an established reputation?
Halifax Sport Karate was established in 2005 by Calderdale coach of the year 2013 Sensei Matt Handley 4th Dan black belt.

Does the club have Certified Coaching Staff?

Sensei Matt Handley is a certified Kumite Coach, who has been the Northern England Regional Kumite Coach in the past. Matthew is currently England's National Para Karate Coach. All instructors are DBS checked and first aid trained.

Does the Club Cater for Disabilities?

Sensei Matt Handley is the current Disability Ambassador for the English Karate Federation, and so as you'd expect, Halifax Sport Karate has the interests of disabled students at its heart.

Halifax Sport Karate is a great place to come to meet new friends, welcoming both children and adults alike.
